This past week work was started on our home to get new siding put on. It may not be very exciting news to everyone else, but for this ranch wife, the facelift to our house is long over due and I am excited to embrace winter this year in a warmer home.
The old stucco started showing its age a while back and for several winters now, it’s been hard to keep our downstairs warm enough when it’s been really cold out. We also had a couple of windows with trim that was rotten and am relieved that they will be replaced and the place will get spruced up.
 
We’re having a layer of Styrofoam insulation put on the outside, then house-wrapped and then siding put on. I’m anxious to see how much of a difference it will make in our heat bill but more so how warm our house will feel when the temperature drops below zero.
Since we’ve live here, the house has always been stucco, so we’re anxious to see what the house will look like with siding put on. Knowing that the room temperature may be a few notches higher than we’re used to will be a welcome change. During cold snaps when the outside temperature hovers at -20 or -30 below consistently, our propane heater had to work overtime to keep the downstairs inside air temperature at 63 degrees. That may be sufficient for some folks but I like it about ten degrees warmer than that so I don’t have to wear long johns and double layers of socks INSIDE  my house. Being warm during the winter is a priority with me.
 
The first pieces of siding are just about to go up so by this time next week, our home sweet home should be partially sided and looking a lot different. I will post updates of the progress.
